Trying to get past obligations I made sorted, programming wise, so I can sit down and properly work on !postActiv. It's not going to happen tomorrow, but it's coming. My first goal is going to be to fix the two major bugs I'm aware of: the groups iffiness, and the oembed failures. #postActiv -

A periodic reminder that everything you say and do on Mastodon is being relentlessly archived by the EU and its creator is being paid to "advise" them on how to do so. This likely means anyone connected to Mastodon too, such as users of this instance.
It is very quickly getting to the point where federating with something that uses ActivityPub is actively harmful to your privacy, and that of anyone you interact with. -

Pretty much the only person who listens to me of the developers genuinely when it comes to federation stuff seems to be Mike and that makes me sad -

@iarna In a system where all that matters is eyeballs, the outrageous, scandalous, and macabre will always have a place above the mundane and the ordinary. -

@ninjawedding Coming back to this since man I was not in the mindset to be putting these kinds of words together the past couple of days, but:
What I'm saying, essentially, is that while there is always an ethical imperative to reduce harm, the meaningful way to do so in this instance is one of two things: either educate users on the ways in which they can reduce the threat model, since this threat model is basically "the application being used as intended", or modify the way that private messages work such that the thread model is no longer an issue, which would be achieved by E2EE.
This kind of thing is exactly why the GNU social crowd has been so loud about the blatantly public nature of the Fediverse as it stands now: treating it as anything but that, is going to lead to problems. We can certainly change that if desired, but that's the state of things now.
I feel that going after people obstensibly using the program as intended, even if we find their particular use morally-objectionable, is not going to be a good idea for the long-term health of the Fediverse, because it is going to create a source of constant conflict. It's the same reason I find publicly-passed around blocklists questionable too. We should be seeking to avoid conflict insofar as is possible, not cause it.
As one suggestion, I think it's a *bad idea* to have timelines mixing public and private posts, because without clear separation, you're going to have people posting publicly what they think is private (and vice versa). -

@ninjawedding What you say in a public space can and will be archived, and there is very little anyone can do about it. -

It would seem the GoG lists being screwed over to move them out of sight, really quite spurred people into documenting issues with games on there even more.
Quite an impressively comprehensive list.

@gllmhyt www.postactiv.com/postActiv.zip (284 MiB) It's the current working dir so it has the entire git in it.
I should probably make a version which is without all the git history too … that'd be a lot smaller xP -

So, the git repo hosting software (gitea) for !postActiv has developed a crashing problem which appears to be as a result of a bug that has been open and unfixed in gitea for a significant amount of time now, so I am probably going to end up having to set up gitlab again.
In the meantime, you can find the current working dir zipped up here: www.postactiv.com/postActiv.zip (284 MiB)
Reposts appreciated, since other federating software don't really do groups.

It's right but it's ridiculous to think that someone won't/can't make a backup.
And the more people will wine about it the more it's going to get backed up.
If the server licenses your post is under a permissive license then you have nothing to say, it's now legally public data.
Morality if you don't want your stuff to be archive, don't stay stuff in public spaces and read the licenses. -

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light. -

I have a conspiracy theory that the Brexit party are a bunch of undesirables other parties have allowed to push forward to discredit Brexit.

@bob Most of these are political opportunists trying to pander to people who think the government was weak over Brexit and should get on with it. I cringe at seeing them succeed because these are exactly the people who will galvanize reasonable folk against Brexit and make the position indefensible in most case. As with any case of political opportunists, these people are at best reprehensible, at worst, well, some of them pretty much ARE fascists, as much as I often say the term is overused.
