@kensanata Have you run anything yet this year? 🙂 I’m off for the first run of the year in a bit. It’s -10C and soooo beautiful! I’ll bring the phone and take some pics.
This pic is from my walk in the sunset (at 2pm) yesterday

@tinyrabbit wow, that is super cold! Doesn’t that hurt your lungs or something? Yesterday it was 1°C and we decided to go for a walk instead. 😅
@tinyrabbit looking forward to some pictures!
@kensanata -10C *is* cold for a run, no doubt about that. There are ways to mitigate it: either run slow enough that you don’t breathe heavily (which is what I did, because I have a cough right now and don’t want to exacerbate that), or use a mask that traps heat from your outgoing breath and warms the incoming air.
Pics as promised!
@tinyrabbit Beautiful!
@kensanata By the way, on winter, do you still run with the lunas?
@im Yes I do. I find that the temperature is not a problem (but then again I usually don't run below at freezing). When running on snow, it has to be compacted: if snow gets between toes and sandal, it gets very, very cold very fast. But as long as you can keep your feet snow free, no problem. Also, no stopping, obviously. 😄 @tinyrabbit
@kensanata Ok. When it's freezing, I put on injinji socks, it helps... 🙂
But not with fresh snow, of course. 😄
@im I don't dare buy injinji socks because I have a huge toe. 😅 @tinyrabbit, we just went for a run: 6.19km, 2°C, 48min. Dark grey skies, no pictures.
@im Also, I just looked at rero.ch again. Super cool! 😃 @tinyrabbit
@kensanata What did you actually checked ?
@im Well, actually some time ago I bookmarked some Swiss maps for gaming purposes, including "Vallesia superior, ac inferior, Wallis, le Valais" http://doc.rero.ch/record/32466and my brother in law works for SwissTopo and that has rekindled my interest in the Dufour maps – he was involved in a recent book: https://www.swisstopo.admin.ch/en/knowledge-facts/histcoll/historical-maps/dufour-map/175th-anniversary-dufour-map.html and so I suddenly though, oh, is rero related to swisstopo, so I checked out rero.ch and thought that a library network sounds like a cool workplace. 👍 @tinyrabbit
@kensanata Ok, I get it. Yes it is a nice workplace. But a lot has happened during the recent years, mainly with the SLSP project resulting in https://swisscovery.slsp.ch
So, a big part of our libraries network left us in december. To survive, we're developing a new Library management system (ILS), aimed at public libraries but not only, using an open source framework from the CERN, Invenio. We plan to go live with some 50 libraries in july 2020.
@kensanata And maybe an belgian university, which is unofficially working with us on RERO ILS, will run our software too, at the end of 2021.
Ah, I meant july 2021, of course, in the precedent post. 🙂
